Portland concert rock violinist Aaron Meyer will lead a summer music camp for children between the ages of 8 and 13.
A classically trained violinist since age 5, Meyer debuted with the Philadelphia Orchestra at age 11 and has soloed with major international symphony orchestras and ballet companies, in addition to performing for many world leaders and dignitaries.
Meyer has worked with vastly contrasting artists such as Portland’s internationally acclaimed Pink Martini, Smokey Robinson, Aaron Neville, The Temptations, Leftover Salmon, 2002 Miss America Katie Harman and the platinum-record-selling band Everclear.
His youth music camp will take place in Portland at the First Christian Church at Southwest Columbia Street and Park Avenue the week of July 6-10.
Students will attend from 9 a.m. to noon. There will be a final performance at 7 p.m. on July 10 at which parents and family will be welcome.
Children will receive instruction in how to write lyrics, produce their own music CD and record and perform their own original music.
They will attend a live performance with Meyer and experience a load-in, sound check and concert.
The camp will include a tour of one of the Northwest’s finest recording studios.
Early drop-off will be available and the children will be provided with a snack.
An 11-year-old former camp participant wrote to thank Meyer for what she experienced. “Your summer camp was soooo much fun! …Camp helped me a lot because I am writing the theme song and other music for my Web show. Thank you for everything the whole time at camp and everywhere, it was sooooo much fun!”
The parents of a former camp participant from Astoria wrote, “We were amazed at the level of detail the children were able to learn/experience—lyrics, creativity, composition, recording studio visit and watching your graceful expression of your relationship to your instrument as a model for their own self esteem!”
Tuition is $250 with a $100 deposit required to reserve space. Space is limited.
To reserve space or for more information call 503-515-3461 or e-mail info@aaronmeyer.com. To learn even more about this camping opportunity and to download a registration form visit the music camp page on Meyer’s Web site at www.aaronmeyer.com/smc.html.
