HOLOCAUST SURVIVOR and artist Alice Lok Cahana gives a tour of her artwork on display at Portland Center Stage’s Gerding Theater at the Armory on April 19. Her art will remain at Portland Center Stage, 128 NW 11th Ave., through May 24. An Auschwitz and Bergen-Belsen survivor, Cahana’s abstract representations of her experiences are in major museums and collections around the world, including the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC; Yad Vashem, The Holocaust Martyrs’ and Heroes’ Remembrance Authority in Jerusalem, Israel, and the Holocaust Museum Houston. In 2006, Cahana presented her painting, “No Names” to Pope Benedict XVI at the Vatican. It now hangs at the entrance to the Sistine Chapel and is the only piece of Holocaust artwork in the Vatican’s vast collection.
