Rabbi Emanuel Rose will lead a discussion of the book he is currenly working on during Shabbat morning services on Saturday, May 31, at Congregation Beth Israel.

Now CBI’s emeritus rabbi, Rose was senior rabbi for 46 years. He retired in June 2006.

The title of his manuscript—in progress now for two years—is “With Evangelical Fervor: A Rabbi’s Life 1957-2007.” It draws upon his five decades in the rabbinate and reflects upon the changes he observed in religious, social and political thinking within the Reform Movement and elsewhere.

Rose also been tutoring his eldest grandson, Zachary Rose Lewis, who celebrated his Bar Mitzvah at Beth Israel on May 3. Present at the ceremony were Rabbi Rose’s wife, Lorraine, and his four children, including Rabbi Joshua Rose, who was ordained from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in New York in 2007 and is currently serving Congregation Har HaShem in Boulder, Colo.

The discussion will take place during the 10:30 a.m. services in the Pollin Chapel, in the congregation’s Schnitzer Family Center, 1972 NW Flanders Street. The community is welcome to attend.
